		<description>S- Thanks for your comments. It&#039;s terribly difficult to work your way through the concepts and language used to discuss and critique art today. The influence of art historians and critics coming out of graduate degree programs since the late &#039;60s, together with the influx of literary critics influenced by Lacan, Derrida, and others, have &quot;thickened the plot&quot; considerably.

One often repeats the lingo without understanding where it&#039;s coming from (Kant, Hegel, and Heidegger, for starters) or what, if anything, it clarifies.  This is a problem for faculty as well as students.

I think there&#039;s been more acknowledgment of the problem in the last several years. But it will take time for its influence to be felt in art schools and art criticism generally.

In the end, we have to do what we can to speak clearly and thoughtfully about the things that matter to us, and encourage our colleagues to be accountable for what they say (and do). That&#039;s part of what it means to &quot;push each other to do our best work&quot; -- a responsibility artists have to one another.

		<description>I find it hard to believe that students are somehow becoming unable to slow down and absorb and share information at the traditional rate of an average lecture period, just because they text message. And, by the way, just because they are plugged into some gadget, doesn&#039;t mean they can multi-task and often ignore what&#039;s going on around them, much to the chagrin of their conversational partners, passersby, other drivers, etc. Furthermore, if they study, they will do just as well in their traditional classrooms that are free of the newest, latest electronic teaching tools. And, maybe, those technology-focused students might just want to take a reprieve from it all in the typical classroom.
